Whelp Watch

eedless to say we were in shock and scared to death.....heard too many horror stories of a singleton pup and mother worrying it to death. Frankly I've seen too many at the Doxie kennel I worked at a few years ago.

We either have a great Mother Merry (although I doubt her figure will ever come back) or a great pack of dogs.....weather permitting (with the exception of ONE female; isn't there always ONE?) I can turn him out in the yard with anyone, including the French Bulldogs.

This may not "hold" when the hormones kick in but they all play with him just like they have turned back the clock and become puppies themselves. They tolerate all the "body part hanging on to he is testing for milk" or just plain figuring out "genders", And go fetch a stick for him to play with.

Of course he is eating fantastic on his own. Hoggin' down on hard crunch; never had to do the puppy slop with him. The Goats milk was to supplement Mother Merry; not her Happy Pei. Due to the cold and lack of floor space Mother Merry still has to be put in the whelping area with him at night (Lord I pray for spring) but they settle in very well; he has his tummy full and they "preen" each other and play with toys. And like most Shar-pei is amazing clean in his area.

SHOCK since Dec 28; I've only had to wash all the whelping area bedding ONCE. Mother Merry takes care of it and since 6 wks of age; he barks when he needs to go outside.

Good mother; put your worries aside......I'd never expected this out of first timer......this being the female dog & us. LOL
