Whelp Watch

I got back from doc and chores in time ... still no pups, but I'm up far into the night. I have a new kitten who "wakes up" at midnight and tears through the house, keeping me awake!! And I'm an insomniac anyway, but was having foaling withdrawals, so whelping is right up my alley! Thanks for inviting us in!

I'm so excited, I wish this whelp goes easily and we can enjoy from this wonderful site. I love to learn, an as a visual person this is the greatest option to do it. I can't wait. Best wishes to Dizzy and her whelping teammate.

I goofed when I sent out the announcement, and spelled her name "Dizzy", rather than Dizzie (although, today, she's probably feeling a bit dizzy!).

My bad, and my apologies to our expectant mom, who is taking her own sweet time, and enjoying the company she has in her whelping box!

I have Vista on my laptop and have no specail programs installed and can view just fine. But, I do know of alot of other issues I have with Vista.

Do we know where Dizzie et al. are. I thought maybe my camera froze on an empty whelping box.

Even as we speak, there she is!!

Probably out walking and digging to help labor along. It's hard to haul the computer and camera along <G>.

To all of you marestare addicts, you need to know that labor in a dog isn't as quick as labor in a horse. From first stage to delivery can take a long time, but, the good news is, that there is more than one baby, so if you miss one birth, you're likely to see one of them later on <G>. Average duration between puppies is 1-2 hours (although they can whelp faster or slower), so you're likely to catch one if you doze in the early stages. *You* can doze...Dizzie's Mom has to stay up <yawn!>. I can tell you that after a litter of puppies, I am pretty exhausted. Dan and I are up for three days non-stop after delivery (we take turns sleeping for a couple of hours), so we're pretty useless by the time the puppies are a week old.

Oh darn.. the camera just went down. Hopefully they'll get it back online soon.

I spoke to Jeanne on the phone. Her younger dogs decided to get under the desk and unplug the camera.

It seems Dizzie occasionally decides to take a stroll into the living room to visit the other dogs, leaving the whelping box empty. Worry not if you see an empty box -- she's just out stretching her legs.

So, all you watchers can go to bed. Dizzie is in *early* labor. Check back in sometime in the wee hours or in the morning. Jeanne's husband has almost finished his book (hope it is a good one). I guess he'll have to start a new book, or Jeanne will have to take over!

Good morning. I see the princess is still taking her time.

Everyone concerned must be pretty tired.

I had a girl who absolutely refused to labor without one of us in the box with her. She'd literally stop contracting if we left. It looks like our miss Dizzie is just that sort of dog. She wants mom and dad around. Everytime they so much as shift their weight, she gets up. Boy, does that make for an exhausting few days!
