Sparkle is fine and out of surgery, still at Vet, had 6 puppies one with cleft palet, it will not be coming home.
All pups almost 2 lbs each, Di will update when she gets home in 40 / 50 minutes or so.

I know normally pups can nurse, but I cant imagine how sore mama would be. I worked as a volunteer at our vets (throughout HS) Mama just needs to recover a bit, maybe a night at the vets? Maybe 2 depending on her condition, Dogs tend to heal faster then us humans. Have to make sure the incisions ok too, so maybe the pups would need to be bottle fed the first few days, I don't know but hope some here know and can say.

I'm so glad to hear that Sparkle is fine. I'm looking forward to hearing more about the 5 surviving puppies.
Is 2 lbs considered average, small or large?

I will wait for Dian to answer the question on size but from expereince that's a nice size. We picked our lab up at 6 weeks old and he weigh 9 bs and they gain a lot the first weeks so I think this is great.

I am a vet assistant and have worked around animals for many years. If everything went fine and mom is doing well after coming out of anisthisia then yes they should all get to come home tonight but that is up to her vet. We always put the pups down to nurse as soon as mom is awake that way they start getting the nessasary colostrum as soon as possible. Hope this answers some of your questions.
