Welcome To Whelp Watch

We all appreciate the miracle of birth, and there is nothing like the anticipation of a normal labor and a healthy litter. We hope to provide a way to glimpse into the life of a litter, showing that raising a litter is hard work, and a labor of love. We also hope to show that breeding purebred dogs is a combination of applying scientific precision, knowledge of the breed, heart and faith to produce the best characteristics possible in that breed. Not everyone has what it takes to successfully, and responsibly raise a litter of puppies.Whelp Watch allows you and your family to enjoy the process from the comfort of your computer chair, leaving the breeding of dogs to those who understand the responsibility of bringing these precious lives into the world. Webcams have become a popular phenomenon, and there are thousands of them on the Internet. A webcam is a device that allows you to see a real-time view over the Internet. Some live webcams provide a moving picture via streaming video, while others provide a still picture that is updated every few minutes, and some each time the page is reloaded. While you would normally have to browse thousands of sites to find animals giving birth and raising their young live, this site is intended to bring a community of dog breeders together in one place. We hope to offer you the best selection of canine webcams worldwide.

Whelp Watch was specifically designed for the celebration of puppies and dogs. Dogs are our passion and we want to share their births and lives with the world. Anyone can click on the links to the webcams. Only registered users may use the Whelp Watch Forums.

Whelp alerts will be sent to all registered users via email when a bitch is in labor.

Why do bad things happen to good breeders?
By Holly J. Goldman-Craig

This past January we were anxiously awaiting a long, carefully planned litter of Cardigan Welsh Corgi puppies.

My bitch, Emma, had a textbook whelping.  The normal pre-labor stuff for 24 hours, she started third stage labor at 4:00am, water broke at 6:00am, first pup born at 6:55am, second at 9:00am and third at 9:20am. It was an easy delivery for her and for that I am so, so thankful.

The first puppy was hard to get breathing but I did get her going.  On the small side for my girls, only 8 oz.  She was plump and beautiful.  The second puppy was small (5.5 oz.) and he never took a breath.  Number three was also small (6 oz.) and she too never took a breath.  And we worked long &hard on these pups trying to get them to breathe.

Emma loved her puppy!  She is one of the best mums I ever had, and I have not had a bad one.  I never saw the pup really sucking, but she was always snuggled up with her mum, hidden by Emma's belly fur.  Whenever I would try to force the pup to take a nipple, she would not hold on.  But, since she had no competition, I was trying not to worry, but my gut told me otherwise.

IMPORTANT!! I.E. and Our Chat Room

Internet Explorer does not work well with our chat application.  It does not divide the columns between the chat area and the users area, thus putting the users area in the chat entry line.  All earlier releases of I.E. worked with the chat.  I strongly suggest if you're going to use the chat, that you download the Firefox browser.

Important Reminder

Remember, you can post your own link and message on the forum regarding a litter you're having.  Several people have sent their message to me (the Whelp Watch owner) when I happened to be out of town, or out of reach of a computer.  As a result a couple of births have been missed by those who may have been watching the forum for an announcement.  So, yes, send a message to me privately, so I can put out an alert, but start your own forum thread on the discussion forum, to give folks a head start on watching your litter!  You can tell us about the litter we'll be seeing on the stream, and be sure to link to the stream (refer to other threads if you're not sure how it has been done before).  If you don't tell us about your impending whelping, nobody will know to watch, so be sure to alert us.

Happy Whelping!

Calendar Component Added

Registered users may now enter the dates of their own upcoming *webcam* births (remember, we're here to view litters on webcam, not advertise litters).

If you have a litter coming, and that litter will be on webcam, you (as a registered user) need only click on the date your litter is due, and enter the name of your bitch, then fill out the content area with the URL for your camera and your kennel name.  All dates entered must have a URL for a webcam stream entered, or the event will be removed from the calendar.  The owner of the site is emailed whenever a date is entered on the calendar.

 Enjoy!

Whelp Watch is not a venue for advertising litters.
